Cut:
A diamond cut is not the same as the shape of a diamond. Most diamonds are cut with a full 58 facets, the more brilliance a diamond displays, the better the cut, and ultimate beauty. However, the shape you select for your diamond is up to individual taste and fashion preference.
Colour:
A diamond where no colour is evident is considered to be at the top of the tier. It is the totally colourless diamond that acts as a prism, which allows light to pass effortlessly through and be transformed into a rainbow of colours. While the majority of gem diamonds appear to be colourless, others can contain increasing shades of yellow to brown, some of which are referred to as champagne diamonds. Other diamonds of exceptional colour known as “Fancies” are red, blue, pink and amber.
Clarity:
Diamonds, more than any other gemstone, are capable of producing the maximum amount of brilliance. Almost all diamonds contain minute traces of non-crystallized carbon (small non-diamond crystals). A diamond that is virtually free of interior or exterior inclusions (commonly called flaws) will be of the highest quality. In such a diamond nothing interferes with the passage of light through it; thus its clarity only serves to intensify its preferred beauty.
Carat-Weight:
The weight - and therefore the size of a diamond are expressed in carats. The higher the carat and/or carat-weight the more precious the diamond is considered to be.
